System Requirements

TOPIX on-premises

TOPIX multi-user servers and workstations are compatible with macOS 13 and later, as well as Windows 11, or Server 2016 / 2019 / 2022. Mixed environments with both macOS and Windows are fully supported. Detailed information on currently approved operating system versions can be found under "Software > Technology > System Approvals".

The specifications listed here represent the minimum requirements for smooth operation of TOPIX. Depending on your workflow and the volume of data being processed, higher specifications—such as faster processors/more CPU cores, increased RAM, and faster storage devices—are recommended for optimal performance.

 

Server Requirements

Processors/CPU Cores (Server)
Supported processor types are the same as for workstation setups.
The TOPIX server can utilize multiple processors or CPU cores simultaneously. Depending on workload requirements, having multiple processors or cores can significantly improve the speed of concurrent calculation, search, or analysis processes. The minimum requirement is 4 CPU cores.

Memory (Server)
Depending on the database size and the operating system, a minimum of 16 GB RAM is required. For larger data files, 64 GB or more is recommended. Servers should use enterprise-grade hard drives (“24/7”) or SSDs, with additional SSDs recommended for data file storage. Implementing RAID is advisable for fault tolerance. Additional (possibly external) HDDs are recommended for initial backup creation.

Storage Space (Server)
At least 30 GB of free storage is recommended for the operating system drive. The storage requirements for TOPIX data files depend on the size of the databases (ranging from 1 GB to several hundred GB) and any external documents stored within TOPIX. To ensure a fully functional repair, recovery, and rollback mechanism, it is recommended to have at least twice the size of the data files available as free storage.

Multi-User Operation
A dedicated server computer is recommended. Mixed network environments are fully supported (workstations running Windows and macOS, regardless of whether the server runs Windows or macOS). A minimum 100 Mbit network is required; a wired Gbit network is recommended. Wi-Fi is not recommended due to performance and stability considerations.

 

Workstation Requirements

Memory (Workstation)
A minimum of 8 GB RAM is required, though more is recommended for optimal performance.

Storage Space (Workstation)
The operating system drive requires at least 20 GB of free storage.

Processor (Workstation)

• x64-compatible processor (Intel Core i5, 6th generation or newer, or comparable Xeon processors; AMD Ryzen, 1st generation or newer) or
• Apple M processor (M1 or newer)

Display
A monitor with a minimum resolution of 1400 x 900 pixels is required. (For a clear multi-window workflow, a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels or higher is recommended.)

Interfaces
Some modules require USB ports on workstation computers for the use of additional hardware, such as HBCI smart card readers or barcode scanners.

 

Miscellaneous

Database
Object-relational SQL database 4D with an integrated web server (included).

Licensing
An internet connection to our license server is required to verify the TOPIX license.
